Static-Eliminating
Drag Chains No Longer Standard on Cars
In the 1950s and ‘60s, it was common-place to see drag chains/grounding
straps on cars in place to dissipate static electricity. Why?
It was believed that static electricity, generated by the
vehicle touching the road, caused motion sickness. In addition to that myth
being busted, the flood of synthetic rubber tires on the market rendered the
chains unnecessary. Synthetic rubber tires allow static electric charge to
pass through them, whereas 100% natural rubber tires do not. Read
